Michaela Hayes, M.H.S.A.
Michaela Hayes is Principal of Hayes Marketing & Communications, a market research, marketing strategy and planning, branding, and communications consultancy. She has worked as a management consultant with national consulting firms including KPMG, The MEDSTAT Group and La Piana Associates, and has held manager and director level positions of marketing and market research with Bay Area-based businesses. Michaela has worked in all three sectors--business, nonprofit and government, and brings this experience to her work in cross-sector partnerships and social responsibility, and in her work with clients that span a variety of subsectors, including health, environment and education. Michaela has published numerous articles on strategy, marketing, market research, partnerships and social responsibility; she is a regular author for CausePlanet.org. In addition, she is co-author of an award-winning book on competitive strategy and of another book on partnerships, and is a contributing author to a recently-published book on strategy formation. She is a frequent presenter at workshops and conferences, speaking about the use of market research to develop business and marketing strategies, and on cross-sector partnerships related to social responsibility. An active volunteer, Michaela serves as a strategic advisor for two nonprofit organizations, and a as mentor for another. She is a Trustee of the Research Foundation of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) and a member of IABC's Social Responsibility Committee; she serves on the editorial board of an online community dedicated to communicating social responsibility, SR LINK; and is a member of the San Francisco Bay Area chapter of Net Impact. She is past president of the San Francisco chapter of IABC. Since 2004, Michaela has been an Instructor for Market Research Basics in San Francisco State University’s Integrated Marketing Program. Michaela has a master’s degree from the School of Public Health at the University of Michigan and a B.A. in Psychology from the University of California, Berkeley.
